Driver Shot On Dan Ryan Expressway Near 47th Street; 2 Passengers Injured In Crash

CHICAGO (CBS)-- A driver was wounded in a shooting on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Friday morning, and two passengers in his vehicle were injured in a subsequent crash.

Illinois State Police said the shooting happened around 2 a.m. in the southbound lanes near 47th Street, when someone in another vehicle fired shots at the victim's car, causing it to crash into the right guard rail, before going up the embankment, and ending up back on the interstate.

The 39-year-old driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from the shooting. Two female passengers, a 20-year-old woman and a 27-year-old woman, were hospitalized for injuries from the crash. The women were not shot.

Police shut down the southbound lanes of the expressway from 47th Street to Garfield Boulevard for more than an hour after the crash, but all lanes have since reopened.
