Woman Killed, 2 Injured In Dan Ryan Crash

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman was killed and two others were injured in a crash Thursday evening that briefly shut down the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway on the South Side.

A silver 2011 Kia was headed north at 10:51 p.m. on Interstate 94 near 79th Street when the driver made a sudden lane change to the left, according to a statement from Illinois State Police. The Kia then rear-ended a slower-moving 2011 Acura in that lane at a high speed.

The driver of the Kia, 41-year-old Carrie D. Banks, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. She lived in Chicago.

The Cook County medical examiner's office has not released details about her death.

The 35-year-old Chicago woman driving the Acura was also taken to Stroger Hospital and her passenger, a 27-year-old woman from Des Plaines, was taken to Mercy Hospital, police said. Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

All inbound lanes of the Dan Ryan were closed for investigation until 2:23 a.m. Friday, police said.
