Cubs 'Try Not To Suck' T-Shirts Create Stir At Busch Stadium

(CBS) Cubs T-shirts sporting the slogan "Try not to suck" that were the brainchild of manager Joe Maddon and reflect the team's light-hearted attitude created a stir at Busch Stadium during this week's series against the Cardinals, Maddon told reporters Wednesday before the foes' finale.

Word reached Maddon that some fans who wore the shirts were, at least initially, denied entry to Busch Stadium by ushers, who apparently deemed them profane. Ushers asked fans to remove the shirts or turn them inside out, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported later Wednesday.

The Cubs debuted the shirt back in spring training as a humorous motivational tool and as a way to raise money for charity. Proceeds go to Maddon's Respect 90 foundation.

"It's much better if the fans make a big deal out of it," Maddon told the Tribune. "Let someone blow your horn, and the sound travels twice as far."

After discussion, the Cardinals are likely to loosen their policy and allow such shirts next time, the Post-Dispatch reported.
