Cubs' Spring Training Opener Set For March 5

By Bruce Levine-

(CBS) The Cubs will open their Cactus League slate in 2015 in a pair of split-squad games on March 5. One Cubs squad will play the Athletics at Cubs Park in Mesa, while the other will face the Giants in Scottsdale.

As of now, the Cubs have 29 games on the schedule, but they could add up to three more games. Fifteen games are schedule to be played at the snazzy Cubs Park, which opened last spring. The Cubs set a Cactus League record for attendance in their first year at Cubs Park.

The Cubs and White Sox will play each other on March 20 in Glendale, then on March 27 at Cubs Park.

The Cubs will return to Ho Ho Kam park in Mesa to play the Athletics on March 23 . The Cubs played at that site from 1979 through 2013 before opening Cubs Park last season. Oakland is moving into the newly refurbished facility in 2015, after spending more than three decades playing its spring schedule at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

The Cubs may also add a game to be played in Las Vegas, according to the Chicago Tribune. That would likely come after the Cactus League finale on April 1.

The Cubs open the regular season against the Cardinals on April 6 at Wrigley Field. The 2015 major league season opens a week later than usual.

Tickets for spring training games go on sale on Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. at the ticket office, www.cubs.com or by phone at 1-800-THE-CUBS.
