Cubs Continue To Headline NL All-Star Voting

(CBS) The Cubs continue to headline the National League All-Star voting.

Five Cubs players remain in line to start the Midsummer Classic on July 12 in San Diego. First baseman Anthony Rizzo leads the NL with nearly 1.75 million votes, while second baseman Ben Zobrist, shortstop Addison Russell, third baseman Kris Bryant and outfielder Dexter Fowler lead at their respective positions. Bryant (nearly 1.63 million), Fowler (about 1.61 million) and Zobrist (about 1.6 million) continue to battle Rizzo for the NL vote lead.

Rizzo is hitting .260 with 14 homers, 47 RBIs (third in NL) and a .901 OPS. Bryant is hitting .273 with 15 homers (tied for sixth), 45 RBIs (tied for fourth) and an .874 OPS. He also has an NL-leading 47 runs.

Zobrist is hitting .319 (fourth) with eight homers, 38 RBIs and a .923 OPS (fifth). His 45 runs also rank third in the NL.

Russell is hitting .232 with five homers, 33 RBIs and a .685 OPS. Fowler is hitting .292 and sports an on-base percentage of .397, eighth in the NL.

Cubs catcher Miguel Montero is fourth at his position in voting.

Fans elect the position-player starters, while managers and players select the rest of the All-Star rosters, save for one final fan vote for the last reserve in each league.

Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta is also a lock to make the All-Star Game, but pitchers aren't voted on by fans.
