CTA Resuming Western-To-Fullerton Run On Lincoln Avenue Bus
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Back by popular demand; the CTA's No. 11/Lincoln bus route is running again from Ravenswood to Lincoln Park.
At the end of 2012, the CTA dropped the southern section of the No. 11/Lincoln bus route, eliminating service south of the Western station on the Brown Line. At the time, the CTA said that part of the route was made redundant by the path of the Brown Line, which crosses Lincoln Avenue four times between Fullerton and Lawrence avenues.
However, many community groups immediately lobbied the CTA to keep the route intact, arguing that cutting the southern leg would be a detriment to the neighborhoods it serves, especially seniors.
Now, the Western-to-Fullerton leg of the route is back on a 6-month pilot program.
"Our decision to bring this route back was, one, based on feedback that we've received through various channels from the community, and also it's part of CTA President Dorval Carter's effort to improve our service citywide," CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski.
No. 11/Lincoln buses will run between the Western stop on the Brown Line and the Fullerton stop on the Red/Purple/Brown lines from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays for the next six months. The northern leg runs seven days a week, from roughly 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, and 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekends.
During the 6-month pilot, the CTA will evaluate ridership levels and gather feedback from commuters to determine if resuming the Western-to-Fullerton leg of the route has been effective enough for permanent service.
