Woman arrested after shooting man on Red Line train, causing CTA service disruption on Chicago's North Side

Man shot during argument on CTA Red Line train in Edgewater

CHICAGO (CBS) — A woman is in custody after shooting a man on a CTA train on Wednesday morning, disrupting service on the Red Line in the Uptown and Edgewater neighborhoods for about an hour.

The CTA confirmed Red Line trains were halted near the Argyle stop around 8:45 a.m. due to police activity.

Chicago police said the victim, a 33-year-old man, was riding the train when a 23-year-old woman approached, spat at the victim, and began an argument with him. She then pulled out a firearm and shot the victim once in the left shoulder.

He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in fair condition. No other injuries were reported.

The woman was placed into custody at the scene. A weapon was also recovered.

Red Line service was temporarily halted between Howard and Belmont, and shuttle buses were set up between those stops, but normal service resumed around 9:50 a.m. CTA officials said some trains and platforms on the Red Line might be busier than usual as normal service resumes.

Investigation into the shooting remains ongoing by Area 3 detectives.
