Woman Struck, Critically Injured By Orange Line Train In McKinley Park
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman was struck by an Orange Line train Thursday morning, after stumbling onto the tracks at the 35th/Archer stop in the McKinley Park neighborhood.
Police said the 29-year-old woman was walking backwards while looking at the train schedule, when she fell onto the tracks around 10:25 a.m.
The woman laid on the tracks for about four minutes before a southbound train approached. Police said the conductor spotted the woman on the tracks, but could not stop in time, and the first car on the train ran over her.
She later was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
The CTA suspended service between Midway and Halsted for about an hour after the accident, and after trains began running along that section again, they bypassed the 35th/Archer station until about 1:30 p.m, when normal service resumed.
