Crowds Flock Downtown For NFL Draft, Polish Constitution Day Parade

CHICAGO (CBS) -- If you're trying to get around downtown this weekend, good luck because it is busy with the Polish Constitution Day Parade and the NFL Draft.

CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports thousands converged on State Street, taking in the sights and sounds of the Polish Constitution Day Parade.

Parade goer Sandra Nakonieczna says she loves the schools the most. For the adults, one thing on their mind was enjoying this event in much warmer weather than year's past.

"It is just a beautiful day," said Jerry Garrett. "A lot of people came out here for these festivities."

"I think it is a lot of money Chicago can make from the people that just come for the parade like that," said Anna Piepryzk.

At Pizano's Pizza and Pasta Restaurant, just blocks from the NFL Draft, business has been brisk.

"This traditionally can be a slower time of the year," said Christopher Spitzer, Pizano's corporate operations manager. "This has turned into kind of what a summer day is during the middle of the summer when tourism is in full swing, when the hotels are filled."

Today's warmer weather also brings the restaurant's first patio day of the year and those here to enjoy the NFL Draft.

"I am a big Jets fan and also a big Detroit Lions fan, just to see the whole crowd coming together it is a great feeling," said Jason Murphy.

"Chicago is definitely, to put them on the map, basically, that's important so everyone can be encouraged to come, and do what they need to do," said Lysa Lawson.
