CPS Students Compete In Science Fair At Museum Of Science And Industry

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The 66th annual Chicago Public Schools Science Fair was held at the Museum of Science and Industry Sunday.

Four students were awarded an all-expenses paid trip to the international science fair in Phoenix Arizona.

Among them 16-year-old Daniel Puczko for his project the effect of mixed cultures on a microbial fuel cell.

Puczko says he focused on using e coli bacteria to create energy and he's excited that he made it to the international science fair this year.

Meantime, 50 students were chosen to head to the state science fair competition in Decatur in MAy. They are all receiving an all expense paid trip.

Among them is 15-year-old Veronica Garklavs, a sophomore at Whitney Young.

Her project measured whether organic or commercial fire retardants worked better.

Garklavs says she'd love to see more girls involved in STEM.
