'You hurt a lot of people:' Woman remains on crutches after being hit by stolen car on Old Town patio

Woman can't walk without crutches after being hit by car on Old Town patio

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A possible clue has emerged in a hit-and-run crash involving a stolen car that slammed into a busy Old Town bar, hitting six people.

Chicago Police on Tuesday released surveillance images of the two people in the stolen silver Lexus. Meanwhile, for the first time, a victim of the crash spoke in an exclusive interview with CBS 2's Charlie De Mar.

Mary Grace Dela Rosa's said was enjoying a Friday night out - hanging out on the patio of Uproar, 1252 N. Wells St., when the stolen car came barreling towards her. She said it happened so fast that she didn't realize she was hit until she tried getting up and wasn't able to do so.

"It's been hard," said Dela Rosa, who now uses crutches. "I can't walk. I can't even remember what it's like to walk."

Dela Rosa's independence and ability to walk was taken by the driver of a stolen car.

"You hurt a lot of people - stopped us from living the lives that we fully want to live - and it really sucks," she said.

Dela Rosa works at Uproar. But on Friday, July 8, she was not at work – but at the bar enjoying a night out on the front sidewalk patio.

"I was having a pretty typical Friday night, I feel like, in the city - hitting the town," she said, "and next thing you know, it's coming for the patio."

It was 10:30 p.m. when the Lexus attempted to pass a Toyota Prius – when it hit the other car, jumped the curb, and plowed right into the patio.

Dela Rosa was one of six people injured. She spent almost a week in the hospital with a fractured ankle.

"I didn't realize I had gotten hit until I tried walking away from the whole scene," she said.

Police on Tuesday released photos of two men they say were in the stolen sedan at the time of the crash. They bailed from the car and ran from the scene, police said.

"I'm sure all of us would like to know who the people were that did this," Dela Rosa said.

She noted that she has been robbed of her independence.

"I can't work; can't pay my bills by myself like I'd like to," Dela Rosa said. "Can't be as independent as I am."

And to help offset some of those mounting medical bills a GoFundMe account has been set up for Dela Rosa.

All six people injured in the crash survived and are expected to recover.

Anyone who recognizes the men whose images were captured is asked to call the police Major Accident Investigation Unit at (312) 745-4521.
