Coronavirus In Illinois: 1,403 New Confirmed COVID-19 Cases, 5 Additional Deaths

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Illinois public health officials Sunday announced 1,403 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and an addition five confirmed deaths.

This brings the total numbers of positive cases for the state to 249,580 and the total number of confirmed deaths to 8,171, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The new deaths include a woman in her 60s and a woman in her 70s in Cook County, and three other people in downstate counties.

A total of 46,496 tests were returned Sunday. The total number of tests performed in the state is now at 4,418,372.

The preliminary statewide positivity rate for Aug. 30 to Sept. 5 is 4.04 percent.

The recovery rate for the state is now at 96 percent, according to IDPH.

As of Saturday night, 1,504 people in Illinois were reported to be hospitalized with COVID-19, of whom 356 were in the ICU, and 134 were on ventilators.

As of Sunday there were 1,644 ICU beds of 3,805 available in the state and 4,377 ventilators of 5,701 available.
