Cop Accidentally Shoots Water Pipe In South Loop Police Station

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A police officer accidentally fired a gun in a South Loop police station Monday night, hitting a water pipe and causing damage to office equipment.

The incident occurred about 9:50 p.m. in the Central District station at 1718 S. State St., police said.

Nobody was hurt when the officer discharged the gun, although a water pipe was hit, resulting in a leak that caused damage to an office, police said.

The officer in question is likely to face disciplinary action, police said.

Several prisoners in the station's holding area were transferred to another station after the building was left without water overnight, police said.
