Convenient To Buy A Gun At Wal-Mart, But Not In Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) -- In just about every location east of the Mississippi River, it is a short drive to a Wal-Mart that will sell you a gun.
One of the few noticeable gaps is the City Of Chicago.
For one, Chicago didn't even have a Wal-Mart until about 10 years ago.
The city council approved the first Wal-Mart in the Austin neighborhood in 2004.
There are now about a dozen stores in the city limits, but none sell guns.
For years, Chicago banned the sale of guns in the city, until that prohibition was ruled unconstitutional.
Last year, the city passed a restrictive gun sale ordinance that limits stores to certain locations in the city.
Here is a map, courtesy of Metric Maps that shows the number of gun-selling Wal-Marts within a 20 mile drive.
