Congressmen Disappointed FAA Won't Take Another Look At O'Hare Noise Levels

(CBS) -- "Extremely disappointing" is how three Illinois congressmen describe the FAA's decision to NOT do another review of O'Hare noise levels.

Three U.S. Representatives - Congressmen Quigley, Schakowsky and Duckworth - asked the FAA to take another look at doing something about noise around O'Hare.

And the FAA has told them, basically, it's done enough.

Congressman Mike Quigley, whose district includes O'Hare, says he's looking into forming some kind of coalition with other congressmen around the country whose districts border big airports.

"I think it's time for those groups to get together - of congressmen whose areas are impacted - and talk about exerting more influence with the FAA.

"If they're not going to listen to three, perhaps they'll listen to 30."

Quigley says the noise levels went up almost a year ago when O'Hare started using the East-West runways more - theoretically, he says, to reduce delays and cancellations.

But he says unfortunately, that hasn't panned out - and he says it's just meant more noise for those down below.
