College Students Get Care Packages At Trunk Party

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A few hundred Chicago and Gary Indiana high school graduates received care packages aimed at helping them focus and continue with their education when they start college in the fall.

The 2nd annual "Off to College Trunk Party" was hosted by the Jesse White Foundation.

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White said graduating high school students had to show they were accepted to and enrolled in college classes in the fall in order to participate.

The program is aimed at helping students stay in college. The students received things that included linens, toiletries, school supplies, and a tablet computer.

At least 500 students took part, more than double the amount last year.
