Rainy Stretch For Chicago Begins Wednesday Afternoon

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A wet afternoon and evening is ahead for the Chicago area, as a large storm system moves in from the Great Plains.

While severe storms were not expected as part of the system, rain could be heavy at times.

Showers are likely to begin by about 5 p.m. in the western suburbs, with most of the heavier activity south and west of the Chicago area.

By 8 p.m., showers will extend across most of northern Illinois, and rain will continue through the midnight hour.

While most of the organized storm activity will clear out by early Thursday, scattered showers will continue on and off through Thursday night.

The next several days also will be chilly, with highs in the low or mid 50s through early next week. More showers also are likely on Saturday and Sunday,
