Cody Bellinger exercises player option, return to Cubs in 2025

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Instead of testing the waters in free agency Cody Bellinger will be back with the Cubs next season—making $27.5 million.

Belli is reportedly passing on the first opt-out of that three-year deal he signed with the team before the start of last year.

Bellinger, a former National League MVP with the Los Angeles Dodgers who signed with the Cubs at in December 2022, has the option to opt out again next year.

But he is set to return for a third season on the North Side after being a part of two straight 83-win campaigns.

Bellinger hit 26 home runs for the Cubs in 2023. Much like the rest of the lineup, his production dipped last year.

The left-handed batter finished with 18 homers and 78 RBI while playing in right field. He also missed time due to fractured ribs and finger injuries.
