Cicero Man Charged With Murder Of 2-Month-Old Son In Berwyn

(CBS) -- A west suburban man has been charged with murder for the death of his 2-month-old son in April.

Ezequiel Cazares, 29, formerly of Berwyn and currently living in Cicero, has been charged with first-degree murder for the death King E. Cazares on April 16, according to Berwyn police.

Authorities initially responded to a call of an infant not breathing in the 2100 block of Scoville Avenue in Berwyn about 12:30 p.m. April 12, village spokesman Brian Pabst said at the time. The boy had apparently suffered child abuse.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was also investigating allegations of abuse and neglect against King's parents, agency spokesman Veronica Resa said at the time.

King was initially taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn with "severe head trauma," authorities said. He was later transferred to the pediatric unit of Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he died at 12:04 p.m. April 16.

His death was ruled a homicide on Monday, and Ezequiel Cazares was taken into custody Wednesday, police said. Charges were approved Thursday night.
