(CBS) In an era in which the final minute of NCAA Tournament basketball games take nearly six minutes to complete in real time, in which pass-happy football games average around 3 hours, 10 minutes and the length of a Red Sox-Yankees game nearly requires you to take work off the next day, White Sox starter Chris Sale deserves a hat tip.
Sale worked faster than any other starter on Opening Day, averaging 19.4 seconds between pitches, according to fangraphs.com. Marlins ace Jose Fernandez was second, registering a pace of 19.5 seconds.
Julio Teheran of the Braves was the slowest worker, averaging 24.7 seconds between pitches.
