Man Fatally Struck By Metra Train On South Side

(CBS) -- Metra Electric District trains are stopped on the South Side after a pedestrian was struck and killed near 95th Street Monday afternoon, according to Metra.

Initial reports indicated the victim was a juvenile, but Metra later reported the pedestrian was a man in his 20s.

All trains traveling to Chicago, University Park and Blue Island will be stopped as they approach 95th Street "due to a pedestrian incident," a statement on Metra's website said.

The pedestrian was fatally struck about 5:35 p.m. by train 705, which was scheduled to arrive in University Park at 5:55 p.m., according to Metra spokesman Michael Gillis.

All trains are stopped, and delays are "expected to be extensive," according to Metra's websites.
