Chicago's Average Gas Price The Highest In The Nation
CHICAGO (CBS) -- With higher summer demand and instability in the Middle East, consumers have been paying more at the pump, especially here in Chicago.
WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports the insurgent violence in Iraq and threats to oil facilities there have pushed the price of crude oil to more than $107 per barrel.
That has translated to higher gasoline prices, nowhere higher than Chicago.
"In the lower 48 [states], we have Tucson as the low, $3.37, and Chicago is the high at $4.15 for regular," Trilby Lundberg, an oil industry analyst.
The latest survey by GasBuddy.com found Chicago area prices ranging from $3.76 to $4.59, with the average at $4.10 per gallon.
The U.S. average for gas prices was $3.68 per gallon.
