Chicago weekend shootings: 8 dead, 16 others hurt
CHICAGO (CBS) -- At least eight people were killed, and 16 others were hurt in shootings across Chicago as of Saturday. The ages of the victims range from 17 to 47.
Friday
In the first shooting of the weekend, two people were shot while inside a car in the 3500 block of West Schraeder Drive in Garfield Park around 5:24 p.m.
Chicago police said a 36-year-old man was struck in the thigh and hand and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. The second victim, an unknown male, was struck in the body and was pronounced dead.
Later in the evening, another man was also shot and killed while inside a car around 8:39 p.m. in the 7600 block of North Greenview Avenue in Rogers Park.
The victim, a 36-year-old man, was inside a vehicle when an unknown vehicle approached, and an unknown driver fired multiple shots into the vehicle. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the face and body and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead a short time later.
At 7 p.m., in the 7500 block of South Stewart Avenue, a 47-year-old man was struck in the arm by gunfire. He self-transported to UIC Hospital in good condition. No other information was available about this shooting.
A 24-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the head in the 0-100 block of West 110th Street in Roseland.
Police said around 7:29, the 24-year-old victim was sitting in a parked vehicle when shots were fired. She was taken by the Chicago Fire Department to Christ Hospital in fair condition.

Saturday
- At 3 a.m., in the 1400 block of North Avers Avenue, two men were in a vehicle when an occupant in a blue SUV fired shots. A 31-year-old man, identified as Tramon Thomas by the Medical Examiner's Office, was taken by CFD to Stroger in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was later pronounced dead. A 32-year-old man was also taken by CFD to Stroger in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the left leg and torso.
- At 2:50 p.m., In the 13000 block of South Drexel Avenue, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the chest and the right arm by an unknown offender. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
- At 2:26 pm, in the 6100 of South Loomis Boulevard, a 28-year-old woman was inside an apartment and involved in a physical altercation with a 26-year-old woman The offender then produced a firearm and fired shots at the victim, striking her in the right arm. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition. The offender, who is a valid FOID card holder, was taken into custody, and a firearm was recovered on the scene.
- At 7 p.m., in the 2900 block of South Keeley, a 24-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when an occupant in a vehicle fired shots. The victim was taken by the CFD to Stroger Hospital in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
- At 6:23 p.m., in the 7900 block of South Western Avenue, a man, 40, was approached by an unknown offender who produced a handgun and fired shots - striking the victim in the torso area. The victim was taken to Christ Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
- At 8:30 p.m., in the 500 block of East 61st Street, a 38-year-old woman was inside a business when a shot was fired. She was taken by the CFD to U of C in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left foot.
- At 11:15 p.m., in the 0-100 block of East 104th Street, a 30-year-old man was standing on the street when shots were fired. The victim was taken by the CFD to U of C in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Sunday
- At 3:23 a.m., in the 3300 block of West 60th Street, a 25-year-old man was a passenger in a vehicle when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left arm and self-transported to St. Anthony Hospital in fair condition. No other injuries were reported.
- At 3:50 a.m., in the 3000 block of South Trumbull, officers responded to a call of a person shot and discovered the victims. An unidentified man was transported to Mt. Sinai with gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen and was pronounced dead. A 22-year-old was also taken in good condition with gunshot wounds to the right leg. The gender of the victim is unknown.
- At 7:49 a.m., in the 7000 block of South Ashland Avenue, an 18-year-old man was walking when he heard shots and felt pain. He suffered a gunshot wound to the right foot and self-transported to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.
- At 6:51 p.m., in the 3900 block of West Fillmore, a 47-year-old man was shot in the abdomen. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
- At 7:47 p.m., in the 6900 block of South Talman, a 30-year-old man was on the sidewalk when someone shot him in the leg. The victim took himself to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition.
- At 9:16 p.m., in the 100 block of North Lavergne Avenue, a 22-year-old man was in the passenger seat of a vehicle traveling Southbound when he heard a shot fired and felt pain. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital by the driver of the car in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the chest.
- At 11:25 p.m., in the 3900 block of West Jackson Boulevard, police responded to a person shot and found a 19-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was taken to Norwegian Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
- At 11:24 p.m., in the 6700 block of South Crandon Avenue, a 25-year-old woman was found outside by police with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. She was unresponsive and was transported to U of C where she was pronounced dead.
Monday
- At 12:32 a.m., in the 3200 block of West Walnut Street, a 38-year-old man was in an argument with an 18-year-old man who produced a firearm and shot the victim multiple times. Police located the offender and placed him in custody. The victim was taken to Stroger in critical condition.
- At 1:50 a.m., in an unknown location, a 35-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and self-transported to UIC Hospital in good condition. The victim was uncooperative with details.
- At 2:37 a.m., in the 10400 block of South Avenue J, a 23-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to U of C in serious condition. The victim related to officers that he was shot at by an unidentified offender who fled the scene in a black pickup truck.
