Chicago weekend shootings: 2 dead, 10 wounded
CHICAGO (CBS) – At least two people are dead, and 10 others are wounded following weekend shootings across Chicago as of Saturday. The ages of the victims range from 15 to 57.
In the first shooting of the weekend, a 38-year-old man was shot while walking Friday night, in the 5900 block of North Kenmore Avenue in Edgewater.
Police said around 10 p.m., the victim was on the sidewalk when an unknown man approached and fired shots.
The victim was shot in the left arm and was taken to St Francis Hospital in good condition.
A woman was shot while driving Saturday morning, in the 9500 block of South Ewing Avenue in the East Side neighborhood.
Around 3:34 a.m., the victim, 24, was driving when a black Jeep approached, and shots were fired into her vehicle by an unknown suspect.
The victim was shot in the lower back and left shoulder and was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition.
A 57-year-old man was shot while seated in a parked vehicle in the 7300 block of North Greenview Avenue in Rogers Park. Police say around 4:50 a.m. an unknown suspect approached and fired shots in the victim's direction.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left flank and was taken to St. Francis Hospital in serious condition.
A 15-year-old was injured in a shooting in the city's West Englewood neighborhood Saturday afternoon.
Around 4:45 p.m., the teen was in an alley in the 7100 block of South Wood Street when someone fired shots. The boy was struck in the groin and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.
In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:
- At 5:47 p.m. Saturday in the 7800 block of South Oglesby, an 18-year-old man was in an alley when someone came up and shot him in the stomach.
- At 5:48 p.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of West 84th Street, a 17-year-old boy was on the sidewalk when an unknown vehicle pulled up. Someone inside started shooting, striking the teen in the right shoulder. The victim was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.
- At 2 a.m. Sunday, in the 2200 block of South Sawyer Avenue, a man, 25, was driving southbound in his vehicle on Sawyer when an unknown suspect fired into the vehicle. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the body and was pronounced dead on the scene.
- At 4:59 a.m. Sunday, in the 1500 block of West Jonquil Terrance, a 23-year-old man was outside when he heard shots and then felt pain. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left buttocks in good condition.
- At 2:34 a.m. Sunday, in the 2200 block of South Kolin Avenue, a woman, 24, self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to her back, buttocks, and left flank, where she is listed in critical condition. The victim is uncooperative with responding officers.
- At 5:52 a.m. Sunday, in the 3000 block of West Madison Street, a man, 32, was discovered with a gunshot wound to his chest and was pronounced dead. Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
- On Saturday, Chicago police responded to a call of shots fired inside a Walmart, in the 10900 block of South Doty Avenue in the Pullman neighborhood around 6:42 p.m. Two groups of individuals were involved in a fight inside the business when shots were fired inside. no injuries were reported. The individuals then fled southbound on Corliss. No one is in custody.
- A suspect and Chicago police exchanged fire following a street stop Saturday evening, in the 2200 block of South Sacramento Avenue around 10:52 p.m. Officers were conducting an investigatory street stop where two men were placed into custody for each being in possession of a handgun. During the stop, two other unknown men were observed standing near the alley. One of which fired shots at the police and the officer returned fire with no hits or no injuries. Officers pursued the unknown suspects and they were placed into custody. Police retrieved another handgun. COPA and Area four detectives are investigating.
