6 killed, 25 people hurt in Chicago weekend shootings, police say

CHICAGO (CBS) — At least six people were killed and 25 others were hurt in shootings across during the weekend as of Saturday, according to Chicago police. 

The ages of the victims range from 17 to 55. 

Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 33-year-old man was struck in the ear by gunfire while inside a vehicle in the 2000 block of South Damen Avenue just after 6 p.m. 

The victim self-transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition. 

Later in the evening, around 9 p.m., officers responded to the 12100 block of South Emerald Avenue around 9 p.m. for a report of a person shot. A 55-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in fair condition.

The victim told officers that he was shot by someone in a blue sedan. 

At 11:37 p.m. in the 5500 block of West LeMoyne Street, two men, 40 and 24-year-old, were outside when they were shot at by someone traveling in a vehicle. The 40-year-old was taken to West Suburban Hospital in fair condition with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The 24-year-old was shot in the shoulder and twice in the neck. The victim was taken to Stroger in critical condition.  

At 11:58 p.m., a 28-year-old man was outside in the 12400 block of South Emerald Avenue just before midnight when he was shot in the leg. He was taken to Little Company of Mary in fair condition. The victim was unable to provide details about the incident. It was not clear if this shooting was related to the one three blocks north on Emerald Avenue a few hours earlier.

Saturday

  • At 12:40 a.m., in the 3400 block of South California Avenue, a 26-year-old man was shot in the back and hand and was taken to Mt. Sinai in fair condition. A second male victim, who has not been identified, was shot in the jaw and was taken to Stroger in critical condition. The victims were unable to provide details of the incident.
  • At 1:39 a.m. in the 200 block of West 63rd Street, a 36-year-old man was arguing with a 49-year-old man at a gas station. The 36-year-old retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and fired at the 49-year-old, who then returned fire — striking the 36-year-old in the arm. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in critical condition. The 49-year-old was been verified as a licensed concealed carry license holder.  
  • At 2:03 a.m. in the 4600 block of South Paulina Street, a 38-year-old man was outside when he heard shots fired and felt pain. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago in fair condition.
  • At 3:47 a.m. in the 3500 block of South Damen Avenue, a 28-year-old man was walking outside when he heard shots fired and felt pain. The victim sustained one gunshot wound to the shoulder and back and was taken to Stroger in good condition. 
  • At 6:10 a.m. in the 3000 block of South Komensky Avenue, a 35-year-old man was outside when he heard shots and felt pain. He suffered a gunshot wound to his neck and self-transported to Mt. Sinai, where his condition was stabilized. The victim refused to cooperate with responding officers and did not want to answer any questions. A second victim was found after police were notified of a walk-in at Sinai of a man who suffered a grazed wound to his left ankle. He is in good condition.
  • At 4:25 p.m., a 20-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 1100 block of West 112th Place in Morgan Park when someone came up and shot him. The victim was shot in the head and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in an unknown condition.
  • At 7:30 p.m., a 30-year-old man self-transported to Holy Cross Hospital after being shot in the ankle while standing outside in the 3300 block of South Ashland Avenue in McKinley Park. He was listed in fair condition.
  • At 11:12 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Franklin Boulevard, police responded to a person shot and found a 35-year-old man who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died.
  • At 11:34 p.m., in the 3000 block of South Fort Dearborn Drive, a 17-year-old girl and a 26-year-old woman were arguing when the girl produced a sharp object and stabbed the woman in her right arm. The woman, who is a valid CCL and FOID Card holder, produced a firearm and fired shots, striking the girl in the left shoulder. The woman was taken to Insight Hospital in good condition. The girl was taken to the University of Chicago, where she was treated and released. She was then placed into custody and Charged.

Sunday

  • At 12:01 a.m. in the 4100 block of West Cermak Road, a 41-year-old man was traveling in his vehicle when he was shot in the hand. The victim could not provide further details of the incident and is listed in good condition at Mt. Sinai.
  • At 12:39 a.m. in the 3400 block of West Grand Avenue, two men, 25 and 35, were in a vehicle at a red light when a vehicle drove alongside them. The occupants of the vehicle began shooting at the victims. The 25-year-old, who was the vehicle's driver, accelerated in an attempt to flee the scene. He was shot multiple times and was taken to Stroger in critical condition. The 35-year-old passenger of the vehicle was struck in the hand, leg, and abdomen. He was taken to Mt. Sinai in good condition.
  • At 1:35 a.m. in the 3600 block of West Leland Avenue, a 19-year-old man was parking his vehicle when he was shot in the shoulder. The victim was taken to Illinois Masonic in good condition. Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim may have been struck by gunfire that was being exchanged between occupants traveling in two separate vehicles.
  • At 1:44 a.m. in the 900 block of North Mayfield Avenue, a 53-year-old man was traveling in a vehicle when he passed a group of males who were standing outside, which was preceded by the sound of gunfire. The victim was shot in the foot and was taken to West Suburban in fair condition.
  • At 2:17 a.m. in the 500 block of East 76th Street, Three adults were walking when they got into an argument with two unknown offenders. The offenders then got into a silver SUV, pulled up to the three victims, and began shooting in their direction. A man and woman were taken to the University of Chicago with multiple gunshot wounds, where they died. The second man was struck multiple times and was taken to Stroger, where he also died. The Silver SUV fled eastbound from the scene. No other injuries were reported. The victim's ages were not released. 
  • At 2:56 a.m. in the 600 block of North Ridgeway Avenue, a 26-year-old woman was standing outside when she suffered a graze wound to the leg after hearing gunfire. The victim could not provide further details of the incident and was taken to Mt. Sinai in good condition.
  • At 4:12 a.m. in the 7100 block of South Cornell Avenue, a 42-year-old man was outside when he was shot in the rear. The victim was uncooperative with details and was taken to the University of Chicago in fair condition.
  • At 4:57 a.m. in the 1200 block of Farrar Drive, a man and a 38-year-old woman were sitting in a vehicle when two SUVs pulled up, and three armed people got out, approached the victim's vehicle, and began shooting. The woman, who was the driver, was shot in the head and self-transported d to Mt. Sinai in serious condition. No other injuries were reported.
  • At 4:07 p.m. in the 10400 block of South Wabash Avenue, a 37-year-old man was standing near the sidewalk and was approached by someone who pulled out a gun and fired shots at the victim. The victim was shot multiple times in the body and was taken to the University of Chicago in critical condition.
  • At 7:28 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Van Buren Street, a 24-year-old man was traveling in a vehicle when he was struck in the foot by gunfire. He self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
  • At 11:39 p.m. in the 100 block of West 113th Street, officers responded to a call of shots fired and found a 34-year-old man unresponsive inside a car, with a gunshot wound to the left ear. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Monday

  • At 12:14 a.m. in the 3400 block of South State Street, two people got into a fight on the back of a CTA bus, when one of them pulled out a gun and started shooting. A man in his 20s was shot in the chest, and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The CTA bus driver was shot in the right shoulder, and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
