2 dead, 23 hurt in Chicago weekend shootings, according to police
CHICAGO (CBS) — At least two people were killed, and 23 others were hurt in weekend shootings across Chicago as of Sunday.
The ages of the victims range from 3 months to 53.
Friday
In the first shooting of the weekend, a 17-year-old boy was standing on the sidewalk in the 1500 block of West 18th Street around 9:45 p.m. when shots were fired. The victim was driven to Stroger Hospital by a friend in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left leg.
About an hour later, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the 800 block of East 65th Street around 10:45 p.m.
Police say he was walking through an alley when an occupant in a black Jeep fired shots. The victim was taken by fire officials to Comer Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound to his abdomen in critical condition.
Around 11:22 p.m., a 24-year-old man was discovered on the sidewalk by responding officers in the 7800 block of South Cornell Avenue. The victim was taken by fire officials to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the head and body.
A 40-year-old man was shot to death during an argument around 11:35 p.m. in the 100 block of North Lamon Avenue.
The victim was in an argument with a known man in a basement apartment who pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the chest and back. The victim died at the scene, police said.
The offender was taken into custody, and a weapon was recovered at the scene. Area 4 detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Charges are pending.

Saturday
- At 1:04 a.m. in the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue, a 12-year-old boy was on the sidewalk when shots were fired. The victim was transported by the CFD to Comers with a gunshot wound to the left leg in good condition.
- At 4:02 a.m. in the 4900 block of West Madison Street, two men, 53 and 39, were standing outside when a Silver Ford Explorer pulled up, and an unknown man got out of the vehicle. An argument ensued, and the offender and the victims began firing shots. The 39-year-old was struck in the thigh and self-transported to Stroger in fair condition. The 53-year-old was taken to Stroger, where he died. The offender and a driver fled in the Explorer fled in an unknown direction. No other injuries were reported.
- At 1:43 p.m. in the 4000 block of West Madison, two men, 18 and 22, were in an argument with an unknown person who then shot them. The 18-year-old was struck in the stomach and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was initially reported in good condition. The 22-year-old was struck in the arm and the leg and was transported to Stroger, where he was also reported in good condition.
- At 4:56 p.m. in the 5200 block of West Ferdinand, a 20-year-old man was near the sidewalk when he was shot in the abdomen. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was initially reported in serious condition.
- At 4:37 p.m. in the 3100 block of West 26th Street, a 21-year-old man and a 3-month-old boy were inside a vehicle when they were approached by an unknown vehicle. Two males got out and shot the victims before fleeing the scene. Police say the father was shot four times in the side, and the baby was shot once in the chest. Both were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, and the baby was then transferred to Stroger Hospital.
- At 6:48 p.m. in the 3700 block of West Huron, a 19-year-old man was in a vehicle when he was shot in the foot. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was reportedly in good condition.
- At 11:58 p.m. in the 1600 block of East 74th Place, a 27-year-old woman was outside when she was shot at by a male offender who then fled the scene. She suffered a graze wound to the arm and self-transported to Jackson Park Hospital in good condition.
Sunday
- At 12:40 a.m. in the 2900 block of West 25th Street, a 17-year-old boy was outside when he was shot twice in the hand. The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai, where he was listed in good condition. The victim was unable to provide further details of the incident.
- At 1:38 a.m. in the 4300 block of East 75th Street, a 39-year-old woman was standing outside when she suffered a gunshot wound to the side of her head. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition. The victim was unable to provide further details of the incident.
- At 5:24 a.m. in the 1800 block of Eat 79th Street, a 32-year-old man was driving westbound when an unknown vehicle pulled up, and someone inside began firing shots. The victim was struck in his foot and was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition. A second victim, a 40-year-old man, was also taken to the University of Chicago with a gunshot wound to his hip and a broken leg in fair condition. The offenders fled in an unknown direction.
- At 2:02 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Munoz Drive, a 35-year-old man was sitting near the sidewalk when he was approached by an unknown vehicle. A male inside the vehicle shot the victim in the leg before fleeing south on Munoz Drive. The victim self-transported to St. Mary's Hospital, where he was initially listed in fair condition.
- At 6:20 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Houston Avenue, a 39-year-old man was sitting near the sidewalk when he was appraoched by an unknown vehicle. At least one male from inside the vehicle shot at the victim before fleeing in unknown direction. The victim was struck in the back and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was initially reported in crtiical condition.
- At 6:49 p.m. in the 400 block of South Kostner Avenue, officers responded to a call of a person shot and found a 25-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the leg. She was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was initially listed in good condition.
- At 11 p.m., in the 8100 block of South Drexel Avenue, a 30-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk, when someone shot him in the arm. He also suffered a graze wound to the cheek. The victim walked into Jackson Park Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Monday
- At 1:53 a.m., in the 200 block of South Wabash Avenue, a 24-year-old woman was standing on the sidewalk, when someone in a white SUV pulled up and shot her in the leg. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.
- At 2:07 a.m., a 29-year-old woman was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Police were told she was at a gas station at an unknown location when someone came up and demanded her belongings, but she refused, and the gunman shot her.
- At 4:06 a.m., in the 12200 block of South Green, a 24-year-old man was outside when someone shot him in the left arm. He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in good condition.
