3 killed, 17 injured in weekend shootings across Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- At least 3 people were killed and 17 others were injured in weekend shootings across Chicago as of Sunday. The victims' ages range from 18 to 46. 

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 22-year-old man was walking through an alley in the 4800 block of West Arthington Friday night just after 9 p.m. when shots were fired. He suffered a graze wound to the right leg and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police say. 

Two suspects are injured after an attempted carjacking early Saturday morning. A 26-year-old man was working as a rideshare driver and dropping off a fare just after 1 a.m. in the 1500 block of South Millard when a man and woman walked up to him and announced a robbery. The man took the victim's cell phone and fired shots as he fled. 

The victim, a valid concealed carry license holder, returned fire, striking both suspects. The 20-year-old man was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg. And the 18-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the right arm but refused medical attention. The victim was not injured. Area Four detectives are investigating. 

Sunday before 2 a.m., in the first homicide of the weekend, a 32-year-old man was discovered face down on the street in the 700 block of South Leamington. He had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead on the scene. No further details were immediately available as Area Four detectives investigate. 

Less than an hour later at 2:42 a.m., a 36-year-old man was in the 1500 block of West 18th Street when an unknown male approached and started shooting at him. The victim was shot in the chest and self-transported to St. Anthony's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No one is in custody in that case either as Area Three detectives investigate. 

Shortly later, 44-year-old man was critically injured in an attempted carjacking downtown. According to police, the man was in the 100 block of West Van Buren when he was approached by several males who tried to take his vehicle at gunpoint. The victim exchanged gunfire with the offenders and was struck in the right leg. He was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The offenders fled in a black Dodge SUV. Area Three detectives are investigating.

Just before noon Sunday, an unidentified man between 20 and 30 years old was found in the 100 block of West 109th Place with gunshot wounds to the arm and chest. He was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition but was later pronounced dead. 

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • At 1:15 a.m. Saturday in the 7900 block of South Wabash, an 18-year-old man was in an alley when he was shot in the buttocks. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition. 
  • At 12:58 a.m. Saturday in the 5100 block of South Wood, a 46-year-old woman was standing on the sidewalk when someone inside a sedan started shooting. The victim was shot in the right leg and transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. 
  • At 2:41 a.m. Saturday in the 7200 block of South Talman, a 21-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk when someone started shooting. The victim was struck in the right hand and was transported to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.
  • At 11:23 a.m. Saturday in the 5600 block of South Princeton Avenue, two victims were walking when a white sedan with three people inside pulled up and someone inside started shooting. The 36-year-old man was shot in the right thigh, and the 31-year-old woman was shot in the right leg. Both were transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were stable.
  • At 11:06 p.m. Saturday in the 7000 block of South Winchester, a 31-year-old man and a 41-year-old man were standing on the sidewalk when an unknown male approached on foot and started shooting. The 31-year-old was struck in the back and leg and was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition. The 41-year-old was struck in both legs and was transported to Christ in fair condition. 
  • At 12:04 a.m. Sunday in the 4700 block of South Ada, a 27-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle when he was shot in the left shoulder. He was transported to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 1:07 a.m. Sunday in the 2100 block of West 23rd Place, a 30-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk when he was shot in the back. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 1:39 a.m. Sunday in the 5000 block of South Justine, a 20-year-old woman was getting into a vehicle when an unknown male fired shots. The woman was shot in the neck and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. 
  • At 4 a.m. Sunday, a 29-year-old man self-transported to Mount Sinai Hospital after he was shot in the lower back. He was listed in critical condition. Circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. 
  • At 5 a.m. Sunday in the 8300 block of South Baltimore Avenue, a 28-year-old man was approached by a vehicle with a number of people inside when someone inside started shooting. The victim was shot in the left leg and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition. 
  • At 3:27 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of West 83rd Street, a 20-year-old man was shot in the chest. He was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.
