Chicago weekend shootings: 9 teens among 22 wounded

CHICAGO (CBS) – At least 22 people, including nine teenagers teens, were wounded in shootings across Chicago over the weekend. The ages of the victims range from 14 to 42.

In the first shooting, two teens were shot while inside a home on the city's West Side Friday evening.

Police said the shooting happened in the 100 block of North Oakley Avenue around 5:50 p.m.

A boy, 15, suffered a graze wound to the buttocks and was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

A girl, 16, was struck in the head and was also transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

Ten minutes later, a woman, 35, suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the 1800 block of East 72nd Street, around 6 p.m.

The victim was self-transported to Jackson Park Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the hand. The victim is a concealed carry license holder.

Minutes earlier man was shot while inside a vehicle in the 600 block of East 44th Street.

Police said the victim, 20, was inside a vehicle when he was struck in the arm and flank by gunfire.

The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital initially in good condition.

On Sunday around 7:30, a 30-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were sitting in a parked vehicle in the 3100 block of West 25th Street when two males approached them with handguns. The two shot at the victims. The man drove quickly away and self-transported to Mount Sinai Hospital where both victims were listed in serious condition. The man was struck once in the head and shoulder, and the woman was struck four times in the chest. 

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

·        At 12:07 a.m. Saturday, in the 700 block of West Chicago Avenue, a 38-year-old man was driving westbound on Chicago when an occupant in a white pickup truck fired shots. The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the back.

·        At 2:45 a.m. Saturday, in the 200 block of East Marquette Road, a man walked into U of C with a gunshot wound to the left hand and is listed in good condition. The victim refused to give any further details on the incident. 

·        At 3:25 a.m. Saturday, in the 6300 block of South Martin Luther King Drive, the victim, a 26-year-old female, suffered a gunshot wound to the neck at the above location. She was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition. Circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. No other injuries were reported.

·        At 6:25 p.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of West Madison, a 27-year-old man was shot in the neck and back. He was transported to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.   

·        At 11:45 p.m. Saturday, in the 100 block of West Adams Street, a 19-year-old man was standing outside when several shots were fired. The victim was struck once on the groin and arm and was transported to Northwestern Hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

Chicago shooting: 19-year-old man shot while standing outside in Loop

·        At 2:05 a.m. Sunday, in the 100 block of West Cermak Road, a 16-year-old boy sustained one gunshot wound to the ear and eye while riding the CTA Red Line. The victim heard multiple shots fired and was unable to provide further details. The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. A description of a possible suspect was provided by a witness. Officers located a man matching the description and recovered a handgun. The offender was placed in custody.

·        At 11:42 a.m. Sunday, in the 1700 block of East 95th Street, a boy, 15, was inside of a vehicle when he was struck in the arm by gunfire. The victim was transported to Comer Children's Hospital initially in good condition. 

·        At 3:40 p.m. Sunday in the 13200 block of South Carondolet, a 32-year-old man was near a sidewalk when he was approached by an unknown male, and the two began to argue. The unknown person got out a gun and started shooting, striking the victim in the chest and arm. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. 

·         At 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the 3000 block of East 80th Street, a 42-year-old man was near the sidewalk when he was struck in the knee by gunfire. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. 

·         At 6 p.m. Sunday in the 10000 block of South Commercial, a 32-year-old man was inside a home when he sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.   

·         At 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 5900 block of West Addison, a 29-year-old man was in an argument with someone who followed him into a parking lot and started shooting, striking the victim multiple times. He was shot twice in the stomach and once in the arm. He was trasnported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition.  The shooter then fled the scene in a black sedan. No one is in custody.

·         At 8:48 p.m. Sunday, a 19-year-old man was driving on the 8900 block of South Ashland Avenue, when another vehicle approached, and someone shot him in the hip. The victim was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in good condition.
