Chicago Thanksgiving Parade Returns After First Cancellation
CHICAGO (CBS) – It was a special Thanksgiving morning in the Loop.
After two years, a Chicago tradition returned.
The Chicago Thanksgiving Parade returned Thursday and featured the traditional, large high-flying balloons, as well as dance acts, marching bands, floats, and even some special guests. The parade stretched from Ida B. Wells Drive to Randolph Street.
This year's parade comes after the 2020 parade was cancelled due to the pandemic. this was due to an order by the City of Chicago to not hold the parade, or any other special events. It was the first cancellation in parade history.
While the parade is a tradition for many, some were experiencing it for the first time this year. Relative newcomers Dellin and Camille Shaner came with their two kids.
"We moved here in February, so it's so nice to see the city come alive," said Dellin Shaner.
"We're so excited that, like, the city's opening up, and (the kids are) able to come out in public kind of for the first time in their lives, so it's really fun," added Camille Shaner.
In New York, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade also returned in a big way this year after being scaled back significantly in 2020 because of the pandemic.
