2 Killed, 9 Wounded In Tuesday Shootings Across Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were killed and at least nine others were wounded in citywide shootings Tuesday.
About 10:15 a.m., a man was shot to death in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
The 24-year-old was standing on the sidewalk in the 0-100 block of North Keeler when someone walked up to him and fired shots, according to Chicago Police.
The man was shot several times and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the death Tuesday afternoon, but would not release further information pending family notification.
About four hours earlier, a 34-year-old man was fatally shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.
Alcaraz C. Reyes was shot in the chest in the 5200 block of South Winchester about 6:15 a.m., authorities said. Reyes, who lived on the same block where he was shot, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
About 7 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot on the same block, police said. He got into a fight with someone who pulled out a gun and opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the arm and back and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Police could not immediately say if the two shootings were related. No one has been taken into custody for either incident as Area Central detectives investigate.
The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred at 11:53 p.m. in the North Center neighborhood on the North Side.
A 17-year-old boy was walking in the 2300 block of West Cullom when someone approached him, pulled out a gun and started shooting, police said. He was shot in the side and taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the boy is a documented gang member.
An 18-year-old man was shot less than an hour earlier in the Loop. He got into an argument with someone on West Congress Parkway near South Dearborn Street about 11:20 p.m. when the suspect pulled out a handgun and opened fire, according to police. The man was shot in the chest and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
About 8:45 p.m., a man walked into a Near West Side hospital with gunshot wounds he suffered in a West Side Austin neighborhood shooting. The 21-year-old, who was shot in the back of the neck, took himself to Rush University Medical Center after he was shot in the 4800 block of West Madison, police said. He was later transferred to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.
Ninety minutes earlier, a 19-year-old man was shot in the Uptown neighborhood on the North Side. He was shot in the foot about 7:15 p.m. in the 5100 block of North Sheridan, police said. The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
Earlier Tuesday afternoon, a 42-year-old man was injured in another West Garfield Park shooting. He was standing outside in the 4400 block of West Maypole a few minutes after 2 p.m. when a vehicle approached and someone got out and opened fire, police said. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
About 11:50 a.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in the buttocks in the South Side Englewood neighborhood's 7100 block of South May, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.
About three hours earlier, an 18-year-old man was shot in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side. The shooting happened in the 8900 block of South Dauphin at 9:07 a.m., according to police. The man was shot in the head and taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
Tuesday's first shooting happened at 1:06 a.m. in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. A 35-year-old man was at a gas station in the 600 block of South Independence when he heard an argument, then heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the foot, police said. He later walked into Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park, where he was treated and released.
Additionally, a 14-year-old girl was accidentally shot in the neck Tuesday afternoon in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.
The girl was sitting at a kitchen table inside a home in the 7100 block of South Ingleside Avenue at 3:26 p.m. when someone pulled out a gun to show it to her, according to Fire Media Affairs and Chicago Police. The weapon accidentally discharged and the person then ran away, authorities said. The girl was shot in the neck and taken to the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital, where she was listed in guarded condition.
