9 Wounded In Monday Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least nine people were wounded in shootings Monday on the South and West sides.

Most recently, a man was shot in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. The 55-year-old was shot in the back about 10 p.m. in the 1200 block of West 74th Street, according to Chicago Police. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.

Several hours earlier, a 27-year-old man was shot in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. He was walking in the 4000 block of West Roosevelt at 7:27 p.m. when someone in a passing gray car shot him in the left leg, police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Shortly before 6 p.m., a teenager was shot in the South Side McKinley Park neighborhood. The 16-year-old was in an alley in the 3300 block of South Hoyne when a gray car drove through and someone inside fired shots, police said. He was shot in the left foot and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Less than 90 minutes earlier, a 23-year-old man was shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. He was driving in the 4200 block of West Van Buren about 4:45 p.m. when the driver of a black minivan pulled up next to his car and fired shots, police said. He suffered gunshot wounds to the left leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

About two hours earlier, a 19-year-old man was shot in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. He was driving south in the 800 block of South California Avenue just before 4 p.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was shot in the right shoulder and took himself in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Twenty minutes earlier, an 18-year-old man was shot in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. He was standing on a porch about 3:40 p.m. in the 3900 block of West Flournoy when a male approached and shot him, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. A police source said the man was a documented gang member and was not cooperating with investigators.

About 3:30 p.m., a man was shot in the South Side Gresham neighborhood. The 26-year-old was shot in the buttocks in the 8300 block of South Winchester, police said. Two suspects were seen running westbound away from the scene. He was taken in good condition to Christ Medical Center.

Earlier Monday afternoon, a man was shot in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. The 27-year-old man got into an altercation with four males in the 6600 block of South Damen about 1:15 p.m., police said. He was shot in the left arm and took himself to Holy Cross Hospital, but was then transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. Police said the victim is a self-admitted gang member.

Monday's first shooting happened about 9:30 a.m. in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. A 37-year-old man was in a vehicle in the 10200 block of South State Street when he was shot by a suspect on foot, police said. The victim drove to another location after the shooting and called police. He suffered a gunshot wound to the left shoulder and a graze wound to the head, and was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized. Police said the victim is a documented gang member and the shooting might be drug-related.
