Chicago Sees Increasing Job Opportunities In Field Of Nursing

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, nursing is the nation's largest health care profession, with more than 3.1 million registered nurses nationwide. Not only has the popularity grown in choosing nursing as a possible career, but the need for qualified nurses in the field has increased as well.

Nikki Campagna holds a Master's of Science in nursing, Doctorate in clinical practice and is the Infusion Center Manager for Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center. Nikki can offer some insider information on the many advantages in working for CTCA and the nursing field in general.

What are your thoughts on new employment opportunities in nursing?

"More specific to oncology nursing employment opportunities, in a new report released by the American Society of Clinical Oncology, by the year 2030 cancer will surpass heart disease as the leading cause of death in the United States. As more and more people seek integrative, whole person cancer care, the type of care provided at CTCA, there will be the need for a larger workforce of qualified nurses to care for those patients."

What are some educational benefits in working with CTCA?

"I have benefited from programs that offer reimbursement for furthering my professional aspirations. CTCA offers financial assistance to full and part-time stakeholders (employees) who pursue formal education programs, including associate, bachelor, master and doctorate programs, to assist in achieving their educational and career development goals. Assistance is also available for individual courses, learning assessments and tests. CTCA encourages both professional and personal growth at all levels."

How difficult is it to get your foot in the door at CTCA?

"CTCA is an equal opportunity employer committed to hiring well qualified professionals who exhibit the qualities and characteristics we feel are necessary to care for our patients and deliver the Mother Standard© of care. We have relationships with many of the area nursing schools (e.g., College of Lake County and Chamberlin College), which gives individuals the opportunity to gain real life experiences working in an oncology setting."
