Chicago Police Reunite Burglary Victims With Stolen Belongings
(CBS) -- Chicago Police Area North detectives are reuniting burglary victims with their stolen belongings, following the arrests of four men in connection with a burglary pattern that dates back to March.
Police have returned items to their owners ranging from computers and class rings to a clarinet. It's come as a surprise to many of those victimized by the ring, including Celsie Sneden, who has been burglarized twice since moving to Chicago 18 months ago.
She's pleased that she will get back a ring her mother gave her when she graduated from the eighth grade, as well as a virtually new laptop. They were among 50 items stolen during a September burglary in the Uptown neighborhood.
Sneden says she had resigned herself to losing everything that was taken and was working with her insurance company when a detective called her Wednesday. She said she was surprised and elated.
Another ring has not been claimed. It is a Fenger High School, class of 1966, ring with the initials DJB.
Area North Det. Sgt. Brendan McCrudden said it helps to have serial numbers for electronics and any unique description of jewelry and other goods.
