CHICAGO (CBS) — A Chicago police recruit was shot in the Lincoln Square neighborhood.

Just after midnight, police said the 21-year-old man was driving in the 2600 block of West Gunnison Street when his vehicle was hit by gunfire.

The recruit was shot in the back before crashing into a parked car. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition.

The 24-year-old passenger was not injured.

Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th) said police will hold a roll call at 8 p.m. in the area where the shooting took place. This effort will include increased police presence.

The 21-year-old Chicago police recruit's car had front-end damage from when he crashed, and there were two bullet holes on the back side of the car.

CBS 2 spoke to the man whose car the recruit crashed into.

"Yeah, just only boom and I wake up and car and I don't know what's going on. But I listened to people running outside talking. I go outside to see what's going on and come and look at my car," said Doncino Perez.

As of Tuesday morning, no arrests had been made as police continued the investigation.
