Chicago Police shoot man in leg while investigating stolen car

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police are investigating after an officer-involved shooting in West Englewood Sunday afternoon.

Police say the incident began in the 7400 block of South Hoyne just before 3 p.m. Police were called to investigate a stolen vehicle when an armed person got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

Officers pursued the person into the 7300 block of South Hoyne, where officials say the suspect turned back towards officers with a weapon in his hand. That's when an officer shot the suspect in the leg.

A gun with an extended magazine was recovered on the scene, police said.

Police rendered aid to the suspect, who was then transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center and initially reported in good condition.

Officials said the suspect is a man in his 20s who has been arrested previously.

No officers were injured, but one was transported to a local hospital for observation.

Both officers involved in the shooting were checked out.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is now investigating the incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation. The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative leave for 30 days.
