Officer, second person injured in crash involving squad car in Andersonville

CPD squad car involved in crash in Andersonville

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago Police officer was reportedly in the hospital Wednesday night after a crash involving a squad car in Andersonville.

Police said at 8:14 p.m., a 35-year-old man was driving a 2016 Nissan Altima south on Ashland Avenue when he slammed into a marked squad car at the intersection with Foster Avenue.

The sergeant in the squad car was responding to a call of a person with a gun and had his emergency equipment activated, police said.

The front end of the squad car was demolished in the crash. The other car was pushed to the sidewalk.

The driver of the Nissan and the officer were both taken to Swedish Hospital in good condition.

The driver of the Nissan was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and failure to reduce speed.
