Chicago Family Hoping For Permanent Reunion With Father In Mexico
(CBS) -- A Pilsen woman and her daughter are hoping to be reunited with their husband and father, a Mexican citizen, for Father's Day.
WBBM Bob Roberts says they're hoping the reunion becomes permanent.
Rosio Fragoso and her daughter Giselle, both U.S. citizens, are going to Laredo, Texas and crossing the border to reunite with husband and father Saul Zarco.
Zarco has been waiting for a visa. Fragoso hopes she can get Zarco a humanitarian visa because he was kidnapped briefly while working as a taxi driver.
"They stole the taxi, his personal belongings and they left him an hour away from his job, tied his hands, his knees and covered his face," said Fragoso.
Fragoso said she has already hired a lawyer who can make the case for permanent residency once Zarko is able to make it to Chicago, but said she believes that U.S. immigration law should be changed to make it easier to unite such families in the U.S.
