Charges Pending Against Driver In Fatal Jefferson Park Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Charges are pending against a driver in a multi-vehicle crash that left one man dead and two others injured Monday night on the Northwest Side, police said.
A 19-year-old man was driving a BMW north in the 5100 block of North Nagle Avenue at 7:25 p.m. when it rear-ended a car that was stopped in traffic, police News Affairs Officer Ana Pacheco said. The crash forced the car into two other vehicles, and the BMW then struck a tree.
A passenger in the BMW, a 20-year-old man, was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated after the crash, Pacheco said.
Marion-Mario Tahiraj, of the 4200 block of North Meade, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:50 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The driver was also taken to Masonic with non-life-threatening injuries, Pacheco said. He is in police custody at the hospital.
The 35-year-old man driving the car that was rear-ended was also taken to Masonic, where his condition was stabilized.
The crash is though to be alcohol-related, and charges were pending against the BMW's driver Tuesday morning, according to Pacheco.
