Cell Phone Store Employees Detain Gunman After Armed Robbery

(CBS) – There were terrifying moments inside a South Side cellphone store Thursday afternoon as three robbers held employees at gunpoint.

CBS 2's Pamela Jones reports on the armed robbery, which happened at the Boost Mobile store at 74th and Stony Island.

Surveillance video shows one of the armed robbers aiming a handgun, maybe with a silencer attached, at a cell phone store employee, as another thief empties the cash drawer. Two suspects bag the cash and a cache of cell phones.

"I'm afraid they might one day they're gonna hurt somebody unless they get apprehended and get put away," co-owner Ali Hamdan says.

Hamdan says these are the same three who robbed a store here two months ago.

The gunman didn't make it away. Employees chased him and held him until police arrived.

"We getting frustrated for them keep sticking us up and getting away with it," Hamdan says. "So, we make sure this time that we get them."
