Carlos Pena On The Spiegel & Goff Show: Pitchers 'Flat Out Just Scared' Of Cubs' Hitters
(CBS) Amid a 14-5 start, their best since 1969, the Cubs have been powered by an offense averaging an MLB-best or nearly 6.3 runs per game and drawn an MLB-high 97 walks.
MLB Network analyst Carlos Pena explained his thoughts on Chicago's high-powered bats.
"You can't go up there just taking," Pena said in an interview on the Spiegel and Goff Show on Tuesday. "The reason the Cubs walk so much and they take a lot of pitches is because pitchers are flat out just scared. They don't want to come in the zone, because if they come in the zone, they get crushed. So pitchers a little bit more careful, and that's the way you end up walking. You crush, you walk. You don't go up there to walk. You go up there to hit."
