Carlos Marmol's Career Is Still Kicking
(CBS) Former Cubs reliever Carlos Marmol has reached an agreement on a minor league contract with the Reds, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reported.
The 31-year-old Marmol opened the year with the Marlins but was released on May 19 after he compiled an 8.10 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 15 appearances.
Marmol's become a bit of a punchline in recent years because of his control woes and struggles as a closer, but he was once dominant with the Cubs. In 2010, he registered 38 saves with a 2.55 ERA while striking out 138 in 77 2/3 innings.
Now, Marmol gets another shot. It's admittedly a long shot, but Marmol's career is still kicking.
