Car Sought In Robbery Of Off-Duty Cop Found; Teen Arrested
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Charges were pending against an 18-year-old man who was taken into custody Tuesday, after he was pulled over while driving a car sought in connection to the armed robbery of off-duty Chicago police officer.
Police have not said if the teen might be one of the three men who held up an off-duty officer in the Lakeview neighborhood on Saturday, but said the car he was driving Tuesday night was a match for the black Ford Fusion police were looking for in connection with the robbery.
On Saturday, three men approached the off-duty officer and a companion in the 3100 block of North Ravenswood Avenue, and robbed them of their wallets and cell phones. They also made off with the officer's badge and gun, a .38-caliber handgun. The robbers dropped the badge nearby and made off in a black Ford Fusion.
The car was spotted Tuesday night, when police made a traffic stop around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Halsted and Eastman streets in the Goose Island neighborhood. The 18-year-old man who was driving was arrested after police found a gun in the car.
Police have not confirmed if that gun was the one stolen from the officer, or if the teen was involved in the robbery.
