Car Shot On Dan Ryan Expressway

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A vehicle was shot on the Dan Ryan Expressway late Sunday night, prompting police to shut down the express lanes for a few hours.

The vehicle was heading north on the Dan Ryan near 33rd Street around 11:15 p.m. when shots were fired. Illinois State Police said four bullets struck the car, but the driver was not wounded.

The car struck the concrete barriers separating the expressway from the CTA Red Line.

Police shut down the express lanes while they investigated and collected evidence. Five shell casings were recovered.

The express lanes reopened around 2:30 a.m. Monday.

Police said it was not clear if the gunfire came from another vehicle, or from off the road.

No one was in custody Monday morning.

There have been at least 26 expressway shootings in the Chicago area this year.
