Chicago man dies after crashing car into power pole in Alsip

Car slams into power pole in Alsip

ALSIP, Ill. (CBS) – A man was killed after his car crashed into a power pole in Alsip Friday morning.

Alsip police say around 2 a.m., officers and fire crews responded to a single-vehicle crash at 115th and Central Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle that struck the power pole and was engulfed in flames. 

First responders were told that the driver was pulled from the vehicle by two passing motorists. 

CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reported the vehicle was left with heavy front-end damage. The pole snapped at the base resulting in downed power lines.   

The driver, identified as 38-year-old Mark Winslow of Chicago, was taken to Christ Hospital by the Alsip Fire Department where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. 

Traffic was closed in both directions. 

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and being conducted by the Alsip Police Department along with the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team.
