At Least 6 Injured, Including 4 Children, In Burnside Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- At least six people, including four children, were injured in a four-vehicle crash in the South Side's Burnside neighborhood early Sunday evening.
Police and Fire Department crews were called to 91st Street and Cottage Grove Avenue, after the accident at 5:55 p.m., police said.
A GMC truck was headed south on Cottage Grove Avenue when it struck another vehicle from behind, police said.
The vehicle the GMC hit in turn struck another vehicle that was headed north on Cottage Grove Avenue, police said. It also hit a parked vehicle on the sidewalk, police said.
Fire crews called an EMS Plan 1, which automatically sends five ambulances to the scene.
At least five people were hospitalized, including all four children. A 25-year-old woman was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, while four children were taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital, police said.
The children were a 9-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy, and two 2-year-old boys.
All were initially reported in fair-to-serious condition, but police said Sunday night that their conditions had stabilized and their injuries were not life-threatening.
