Bulls' Taj Gibson Has A Fracture In Ribs

(CBS) Bulls forward Taj Gibson has a small fracture in his ribs and will miss Thursday night's game against the Rockets, coach Fred Hoiberg told reporters.

It's not clear how long Gibson will be out. Hoiberg stopped short of ruling him out for the season, and Gibson was firm in saying he'll return this season, the Tribune's K.C. Johnson reported. Gibson has been dealing with sore ribs dating back to at least Saturday's game at Orlando and left Tuesday's win at Indiana because of the injury. He found out about the rib fracture after Chicago's loss to Atlanta on Monday evening, the Tribune reported, then unsuccessfully tried to play through it Tuesday.

Gibson's averaging 8.6 points and 6.9 rebounds and has been one of the Bulls' most consistent players as they've struggled in recent weeks. He's also dealt with a hamstring injury recently. Gibson has played in 73 games this season, starting 55. This will be his second missed game.

Rookie Bobby Portis is expected to start in Gibson's place.
