Bulls Announce Signings Of Brooks, McDermott
(CBS) The Bulls have officially signed free agent guard Aaron Brooks and rookie first-round pick Doug McDermott, they announced Tuesday afternoon.
The 29-year-old Brooks comes to Chicago after averaging 9.0 points and 3.2 assists with Houston and Denver last season. He shot nearly 39 percent from 3-point range, and he fits the Bulls' mold of a small, attacking guard off the bench who sparks the offense, much like D.J. Augustin and Nate Robinson in recent years.
"We're excited to add a player as experienced and talented as Aaron to our group," Bulls general manager Gar Forman said in a statement.
Brooks signed a veteran's minimum exception, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The Bulls acquired McDermott in a draft-night trade from the Nuggets, sending a pair of first-round picks Denver's way to nab the sharp-shooting small forward. Terms of his deal weren't disclosed either, but the rookie-scale slot for No. 11 picks was about $1.89 million in the first year, and first-rounders can sign for anywhere between 80 percent and 120 percent of that their slot value.
"We're very excited about the addition of Doug," Forman said. "We love the versatility of his game and his ability to shoot. He's a fit for our team and organization on many different levels."
Teams typically sign rookies to two-year deals with team options for the third and fourth years.
