Bucktown Resident Turns Tables On Knife-Wielding Home Invader
(CBS) -- A home invader picked the wrong house to try to rob this holiday weekend.
Inside, the resident -- all of 6 foot, 5 inches and 280 pounds of him -- took action.
Now the would-be thief is in custody, CBS 2's Jim Williams reports.
It was a quiet Sunday morning at home, or so Steve Jensen thought, until a man entered an open back door.
"He got all the way into my rear hallway," Jensen says.
He ended up wrestling 55-year-old Shawn Clark to the ground.
"I was very concerned. That's why I wanted to get him on the ground as fast as possible," Jensen says.
Especially after Jensen saw the man had a knife.
"I pulled it out and threw it on the ground," he said.
Jensen is not your average homeowner here. He's the president of the Bucktown Community Organization, leading the effort to fight crime in a community known for its elegant homes and hot night spots.
He said he had to chase Clark for two blocks.
"The irony is not lost on me. I deal with these issues on a weekly basis," Jensen said. "Nothing shocks me."
Jensen says police show him data that indicates crime is down in Bucktown this year. But his neighbors find that hard to believe. A short time ago, his wife's car was stolen right outside their home.
He plans to keep his back door shut.
