Brown, Purple line trains bypass Sedgwick stop

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Brown Line trains were halted at the Sedgwick station in Old Town late Friday afternoon after a woman was hit and critically injured by a train.

Police said at 3:40 p.m., the 31-year-old woman was hit by a train at the Sedgwick stop. The circumstances of how the woman was hit by the train were not immediately learned.

She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Service on the Purple Line from the Loop through Evanston and into Wilmette has been suspended altogether after the incident.

By 4:54 p.m., trains on both lines were running again, but were not stopping at Sedgwick.

Normal service later resumed.
