2 Children Critically Injured, Woman Seriously Hurt In Bronzeville Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two children were critically injured and a woman was seriously injured in a crash in the Bronzeville neighborhood early Friday morning.
Police said a 24-year-old woman was driving a silver 2017 Hyundai Elantra east on 49th Street with a 2-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy in the back seat, and a 23-year-old man was driving a silver 2016 Dodge Charger north on King Drive, when one of the cars ran a red light, causing them to crash.
The Charger ended up partly on the sidewalk with front-end damage, and the Elantra ended up next to a traffic signal control box with damage to the side and front end.
Fire Department officials the two children were taken to Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition. The woman was taken to the University of Chicago trauma center in serious condition.
Sources said the children were not properly restrained, and there were no child seats in the car at the time. Police could not confirm reports the girl ended up under one of the cars after the crash.
The man driving the Charger declined treatment from paramedics.
The Police Major Accident Investigation Unit was investigating.
